I was at my volunteer job place(Neighbourhood Care Outreach)this morning and the sight I saw left me wondering when this would end.
Right there before me were about 4 kids brought in to join the other 3 or so kids who were already there seated and eating a light mid-morning snack who were actually a caricature of what kids should have been.
There were encouraged to go take their baths and then brought back but one of the kids(the youngest)still looked down and with rat bites on his hands and butt and I proceeded to ask our co-ordinator what was wrong knowing that we have a lot of them who have lost a parent or both parents to AIDS were themselves infected.
The anwer I received was not just startling but mind boggling as well. His name was Saviour and he had just lost his mother about 2 months ago to AIDS and was himself infected and virtually abandoned because their father had not the slightest hint of care for them and thus if not for Neighbourhood Care, he would have joined his Mum by now.
I play a lot with kids and always make them smile at least but this was the first kid I came across that never smiled.
I have tried as much as can to make him get and join his siblings at play but to no avail. I understand the pain his tender body has to go through and I will continue to be there for him whether he likes it or not and I will continue to do my part for now especially seeing that we has to be supplemented with personal funds and donations as the government funds never come on time and more time is spent canvassing for money rather than helping these needy people especially these kids who just want to live like we all do.
